Puppy Primer:
This class is geared toward young ones 9-16 weeks. Puppy class is the most important class you can take because you learn all the right things to do with your pup right from the start! The first class is an Orientation for owners (no puppies) where we discuss the importance of puppy socialization as well as tools and techniques to help you conquer all the normal puppy issues you may be experiencing, including housetraining, puppy biting, crate-training and chewing. The remaining 4 classes focus on two things—socializing your puppy and teaching some basic manners. To help socialize your pup we include 1-2 structured play times with the other pups in the class, as well as exposure to potentially scary everyday things like vacuums, baby strollers, shovels and umbrellas. All of these “monsters” are paired with something positive, like food, to help improve the association between them. To help your puppy become a polite member of your family, we also teach you how to train a few of the basics: name recognition, sit, down, drop it, leave it, and no jumping. All excellent foundation behaviors to get you and your pup started on the right path toward a long, happy, rewarding life together!
This class costs $125 and runs for 5 weeks. First class is an Orientation for owners only.
Puppy 101:
This second level puppy class is for pups between 4 and 7 months of age and involves a nice combination of basic training and playtime. We welcome both graduates of the Puppy Primer class, as well as those pups who (oops!) missed the first puppy class and need to learn everything from scratch! This class is different from Puppy Primer in that it focuses more on teaching basic foundation behaviors such as (amongst many others)Touch, Come, Polite Walking, With Me, and Stay, and focuses a bit less on puppy socialization. However, each class in Puppy 101 ends in structured Puppy Playtime—something that is very beneficial to pups at this age who still can learn a great deal from continued dog to dog exposure.
This class costs $125 and runs for 5 weeks. First class is an Orientation for owners only.
Etiquette 101:
This class is a basic manners class geared toward adult dogs ages 8 months and up who either are new to the training world or who have had some training, but could really use some more practice in a low distraction environment. The first class is an Orientation for owners (no dogs) where we aim to educate owners from a behavioral perspective as to why their dogs do the things that they do (barking, chewing, jumping, eating poop, garbage raiding. Anything sound familiar?) and what we, the humans, can do to curb these normal, yet annoying behaviors. In this first class, we also learn the training method known as Clicker Training which we use in class. The remaining 4 weeks with the dog consist of learning some basic behaviors, including sit, down, come, polite greeting (not jumping), stay, loose-leash walking, and drop it.
This class costs $125.00 and runs for 5 weeks. First class is an Orientation for owners only.
Etiquette 201:
Looking to make your rover a bit more reliable? Haven’t used that clicker in awhile? This is a 4 week class for the mostly well-trained dog whose behaviors just needs some tweaking. Our main objective is to train quicker responses, increase reliability, improve any hiccups in YOUR body language or communication, and most importantly, increase the level of distractions so that your dog learns to listen to you, regardless of what is going on around him/her. This is also a class that can be tailored to meet your needs. Each dog may be at a slightly different level, but we will work with you at the level your dog is at. This class is very similar to our Outdoor Etiquette class (see below), except that it takes place indoors.
This class costs $100.00 and runs for 4 weeks. Dogs come to all four classes and should have some formal basic training and experience with clicker training.
Outdoor Etiquette:
Distractions! Distractions!!This is a great class designed for dogs who have had some training and do very well with their basics until they’re distracted by that dog or squirrel running by!! This class takes place outside on the Collared Scholar parking lot/grass area where we offer a more distracting environment. We start off simple by “cleaning up” the basics that your dog already performs. From there we work to increase the “Three D’s”—duration, distance, and distraction for each of these behaviors. Learn new hand signals for “sit” and “down” from a distance, practice loose-leash walking while circling around another dog in class, and practice “leave it” at a distance. These are just some of the behaviors we work on in this class. This is great for owners whose dog joins them in many of their life activities, but could be a little better behaved!
This class costs $100.00 and runs for 4 weeks. Dogs come to all four classes. Dog should have some formal basic training and experience with clicker training.
Tricks and Games:
This is a fun class and a great way to spend time with your dog!
Tricks and Games covers 16 different tricks in 4 weeks! Talk about tiring your dog out! Teach your dog to rollover, sit pretty, go bowling, and play dead! In between the “tricks” we have fun “games” that get you and your dog up and moving and work on some of the basic skills. Some games we play include “musical sits”, “101 things to do with a box”, and “Simon Says”. This is a great class, too, to boost a shy dog’s self-confidence!
This class costs $100.00 and runs for 4 weeks. Dogs come to all 4 classes. Dog should have had some formal basic training.
Agility for Fun!:
This is a favorite among our students, dogs and humans alike! Great class to introduce your dog to agility equipment such as the Teeter-Totter, A-Frame, and “Tire Jump”. This class has NO competitive goals and is strictly for fun! Excellent way to engage your dog in physically and mentally stimulating exercise! Also good to boost the self-confidence of shy, timid dogs.
This class costs $100.00 and runs for 4 weeks. Dogs come to all 4 classes. Dogs are ideally off-leash for much of this class.
Clicks for Kids!:
School’s Out!! Or is it?? Time to consider bringing your furry best friend to a class for their own education!! Hey, maybe you will learn a few things too! This class is geared toward kids ages 8-14 who want to strengthen their relationship with their adult dog while having fun, too! Kids learn how to train their dog to do some basic manners and some fun, new tricks, and dogs learn how to listen to and respect the child.
This class is $125.00 and runs for 5 weeks. The first class is an Orientation for the family only. An adult must be present with the child and the dog at all times. This is a summer time class only.
Rally:
Rally is a fun dog sport consisting of a series of stations you and your dog navigate. Each station has instructions based on basic leash walking and obedience skills to test your handling abilities as well as your dog’s fluency. Rally is both mentally and physically stimulating and provides a wonderful way to exercise your dog’s mind and body. It is ideal for those with some training experience and looking for a fun and exciting way to be with their dog.
This class costs $100.00 and runs for 4 weeks. Dogs come to all 4 classes. Some formal training is required to take this class.
Drop-In Training
No Registration Required. We now offer an alternative to the formal training class! Less structured and convenient for many, these “drop-in” practice sessions are ideal for those who cannot commit to a 5 week training class, but still want to squeeze in some training time with their dog when it fits within their schedule. All dogs are welcome!
Call us for details. Newcomers must attend an Orientation before coming to any drop in session.
